AFTERCARE · TROUBLESHOOTING

Hearing aid not working properly?

Most problems have a two-minute fix — and the rest are covered by your 4 years of unlimited aftercare. Work through the quick checks below, then let us take over.

QUICK FIXES

Start with the usual suspects

My hearing aid sounds weak or dead

Nine times out of ten this is a blocked wax guard or dome. Change the wax guard, brush the sound outlet, and make sure the aid is fully charged (look for the charging light). Still quiet? Book in — cleaning and checks are part of your aftercare.

It whistles or squeals

Whistling usually means sound is leaking back to the microphone: reseat the aid so it sits properly, check the dome or earpiece is the right way round, and consider whether ear wax has built up in your ear — a quick examination tells us. Persistent whistling is worth a fitting check.

It will not charge

Clean the charging contacts on aid and charger with a dry cloth, reseat the aids firmly until the light responds, and check the charger itself is powered. If a full overnight charge no longer lasts the day, book in — batteries and chargers are covered by your warranty and aftercare.

Sound is distorted or crackly

Often moisture or a part-blocked filter. Leave the aids in their charger or a dry case overnight, change the wax guard, and avoid hairspray and creams while wearing them. If crackle persists, we will check the receiver.

Bluetooth or the app keeps dropping

Restart your phone, then forget and re-pair the hearing aids in your phone’s Bluetooth settings and the brand app. Keep the app updated. One re-pair fixes most streaming complaints.

One ear sounds different from the other

Swap-test nothing yourself — just note which ear and when it started, and book in. Differences between ears are exactly what your included aftercare appointments are for.

PREVENTION

Most of this is avoidable

Almost every problem above starts with wax, moisture or a tired filter. Our care guide shows the weekly habits — with official videos for Signia, Phonak, Oticon and Widex.
